Ability Haste in League of Legends is a new stat that was introduced in the preseason of Season 11. It replaces the old cooldown reduction (CDR) stat, but works in a different way. In this article, we will discuss what Ability Haste is, how it works, and how players can gain it.

What is Ability Haste and Cooldown Reduction?

Cooldown Reduction

Cooldown Reduction, often abbreviated as CDR. It's represented as a percentage, which indicates how much quicker an ability can recharge. For example, with a 20% Cooldown Reduction, abilities will become available 20% faster than without the reduction. The actual percentage of cooldown reduction, however, is not directly gained from items or runes in the game.

Ability Haste

Ability Haste, on the other hand, is a stat that players can accumulate through in-game items and runes. It serves a similar purpose as Cooldown Reduction - to decrease the downtime between abilities - but it operates differently. Instead of directly reducing cooldowns by a percentage, Ability Haste works linearly: the more you accumulate, the faster your abilities will recharge. The actual percentage of cooldown reduction is then calculated based on the amount of Ability Haste a player has.

How to Calculate Cooldown Reduction?

Formula of Calculating Cooldown Reduction

Cooldown reduction (CDR) is an essential stat in League of Legends that decreases the time it takes for your abilities to become available again after use. Knowing how to calculate CDR is crucial in building effective item sets and creating optimal strategies for each champion.

The formula for calculating cooldown reduction is relatively straightforward: (Ability Haste / Ability Haste + 100) * 100. This formula calculates the percentage by which your original cooldowns are decreased, based on your current ability haste stat.

For example, suppose you have 50 ability haste. In that case, your CDR would be (50 / 150) * 100 = 33.3%. This means that all of your abilities' cooldowns will be reduced by one-third of their original value.

How Do I Know How Much CDR I Have?

One way to check your current CDR is to hover over an ability's icon on the bottom bar or press "C" to bring up your character's stats page.

Is There a Cap on Ability Haste?

The ability haste cap in League of Legends is 500. This means that no matter how many items, runes, or buffs you have that grant ability haste, you cannot exceed this limit. At 500 ability haste. This is equivalent to having 83.3% cooldown reduction.
