How to Get Free League of Legends Skins

Unlock free skins in League of Legends by reaching Honor Level 5 or utilizing Amazon Prime benefits.

League of Legends (LoL) has long charmed players with its vast array of champion skins, offering a unique way to personalize gameplay experience. While these cosmetic alterations usually require purchase, Riot Games occasionally gives out free skins. However, it's worth noting that Riot used to be more generous with free skins, a trend that seems to have declined with their soaring success. Nevertheless, there are still a few ways to get free skins. Let's dive into each of them, while also showcasing some unique benefits for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon Prime Loot

As an Amazon Prime member, you gain access to Prime Gaming. This membership bonus provides you with a free chest every month, containing a legendary skin shard. While this might not be entirely "free" since it comes with the cost of an Amazon Prime membership, it can certainly can help you to get a legendary skin shard, you can check our Amazon Prime article to get more detail.

Waterloo Miss Fortune

For new players, Riot Games has a special gift. By creating a new account and playing your first seven games that count as the "first-game-of-the-day," you can get the Waterloo Miss Fortune skin shard as the seventh and final reward. While you could choose 500 Orange Essence instead, the Waterloo Miss Fortune skin makes a great addition to your collection.

Medieval Twitch and Grey Warwick

The spirit of fair play can also earn you skins. Reach Honor Level 5 in LoL by maintaining friendly, sportsmanlike behavior in games, and you can unlock Medieval Twitch or Grey Warwick skins with your Honor Level 5 Token. If you already have these skins, you can get chromas for them instead.

Season Reward Skins

At the end of each season, players who have achieved Gold rank or higher automatically receive a new Victorious skin. However, you cannot get the Season Reward skins from previous years.

Triumphant Ryze

Triumphant Ryze is a skin reserved for the winners. This rare skin can only be acquired by winning a tournament, whether professional or through platforms like Battlefy, game.tv, or Toornament. The effort can be well worth it as this skin is one of the most distinctive in the game.

Hextech Crafting

Hextech Crafting offers a path to free skins via Hextech chests. You can earn these chests through earning an S rank on a Champion, or through loot. Open these chests for a chance at skin shards, which you can then upgrade into permanent skins using Orange Essence.

Orange Essence and Skin Re-Rolling

When you open a Hextech Chest, you might receive skin shards for skins that don't interest you. In this case, you can disenchant these shards into Orange Essence. When you finally get a shard for a skin you want, you can turn it into a permanent skin using the accumulated Orange Essence. Alternatively, you can also re-roll three skin shards into a random permanent skin, similar to a Gacha Game.

Exclusive Loot Skins

In 2022, Riot introduced a Mythic Shop into the LoL client. This new system lets players use Mythic Essence to buy Hextech skins, which typically cost 100 Mythic Essence and rotate in the shop. You can earn Mythic Essence through chests or during specific events by Riot. Moreover, with Twitch Prime's monthly reward (available through Amazon Prime), you can get an additional 10 Mythic Essence, aiding you further in your quest for exclusive skins.

Riot Girl Tristana and Unchained Alistar

Unfortunately, Riot stopped the promotions for these skins. Until recently, you could still get them via a support ticket, but Riot has since removed that as well.
